[M8/M20/M21 region, M. BenDaniel]

This gorgeous image of the region of the Lagoon Nebula M8, the Trifid Nebula M20, open star cluster M21 and a number of other objects in Sagittarius was obtained by Matt BenDaniel. He used an autoguided Astro-Physics 130 EDF refractor telescope to take this gorgeous photograph, a 90-minutes exposure on hypered Kodak PPF 400 film, on May 24, 2001 from Pearce, Arizona.

The Lagoon Nebula M8 is the large, bright nebula in the lower right, while the smaller red-blue bright nebula in the upper right is the Trifid Nebula M20. The nice open cluster above and left of M20 is M21. The fainter large nebula on the left is NGC 6559. A number of further clusters, dark and bright nebulae and much detail can be found in this image.

    The diffuse emission nebulae M8, the Lagoon Nebula (big, red, right of center) and M20, the Trifid Nebula (above M8, red 'n' blue), and open cluster M21 (above and left of M20) were captured by Alexander Jäger of the Interessengemeinschaft Astronomie on September 28, 1995 with a 300-mm f/2.8 telephoto lens, exposed 10 minutes on Scotchchrome 400, from the Roque de Los Muchachos, La Palma.
