Supernova 2016cok (also designated ASASSN-16fq) was discovered in M66 on May 28, 2016 by the All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN), hosted at the Department of Astronomy of the Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio). It was found when still rising at visual magnitude 16.6 to 16.7, and brightened to 16.1 during its maximum reached on June 1, 2016. This supernova is located 61".4 east and 34".0 south of the center of M66, near a bright knot in the second-brightest Eastern arm. It was classified as of type IIP.
